Cedric Engels
Born in 1987 as son of a carpenter, Cedric started his musical career around the turn of the century. Hermanos Inglesos was born. An album followed on PIAS, which led to a signing with Sony Music.
Cedric's parents always had been most supportive of his choices, but his father insisted he'd have a back up plan ready. So while working on music, Cedric went to Law school and specialised in Copyright Law and wrote a master thesis on sampling.
In 2011 he started his adventure in London with two goals: learning as much as possible at SAE-audio engineering/Middlesex University and inhaling the inspiring power of the Thames' shores. More than ever Cedric realised that he wanted to continue in sound. And he did. Back in Belgium, he co-founded Sonhouse to focus on the creation of sound identities in an international context. His mission in life is to make people aware of the power of sound and the impact on our society, hence his book and the TEDx-talk on sound ecology.
Phile Bokken
Born in 1973, Philippe ‘Phile’ Bokken was destined to end up in sound. At the age of 12-13 Phile started playing in bands with his brother Alain, encouraged by their father who owned a few music stores and who even built them a home studio. But when the time came to pick a higher education, ‘music’ was not the answer his dad wanted to hear. So for a while, rather than on stage Phile worked his magic in a bank.
But blood is thicker than water, and before long he returned to music. First as a jack-of-all trades in a music store where he met his future associate Thierry Van Durme, later as a representative for his father’s chain. All the while playing the bass, the drums or even as backing vocalist in smaller and bigger bands such as K’s Choice, The Radios and the larger-than-life Belgian coverband The Magical Flying Thunderbirds.
After co-partnering in Belgium’s ambitious sound agency Sonhouse, Phile felt the time was right to become an acoustics evangelist at Sonhouse Acoustics. Backed by his hybrid experience as a businessman who knows a thing or two about creating a connection with an audience and how a space should interact with the crowd. Phile helps clients make the switch to a better life through beautiful acoustics.
Matthias Aerts
Born in 1977, Matthias’ upbringing between music concerts, his father’s music studio and everything in between would always lead him to exactly where he is right now.
His degrees in both IT and Jazz Studio Antwerp (guitar) helped Matthias listen to sound in a different way. Fascinated by the technical aspect and science behind perfect audio, Matthias’ started hosting workshops in acoustics… and the rest is history. As founder of iDeal Acoustics, Matthias and his company built over 300 perfectly sounding studios for Qmusic, Warner Bros, Netsky, Selah Sue and many more. Not to mention designing a variety of acoustic experiences for a.o. Mediamarkt, DHL and UGent.
For Sonhouse Acoustics, Matthias will bring his extensive technical experience to the table, as well as his ability to find - or even create - the shortest way to the best solutions with a tasteful design in mind.
